New York City – Watkins Glen State Park – Niagara Falls

Summary of The Day: We’ll drive through scenic Upstate New York and the Delaware Gap to Watkins Glen State Park. You’ll have free time to walk through the park before we continue on to Niagara Falls. There will be a tour of the American Side of the falls, including American Falls, Goat Island and Sister Island. The evening portion of our tour takes us to the Canadian side of Niagara Falls, where we’ll see the falls illuminated in a rainbow of colors.

  • Watkins Glen
    The village of Watkins Glen, New York, lies between the towns of Dix and Reading. The town was incorporated in 1842 by its original name “Salubria;” the town was later named Watkins after Dr. Samuel Watkins, and named Watkins Glen in 1926. Watkins Glen is located on the tip of the Seneca Lake and is home to the Watkins Glen Park. Watkins Glen is also known for its auto racing culture and for its famous racetrack, Watkins Glen International and its historic racing tournament, the Watkins Glen Grand Prix.
  • Niagara Falls, NY
    Named after the wondrous Niagara Falls that it borders, this United States city in Upstate New York is located across the Niagara River from Niagara Falls, Canada. Niagara Falls, New York was established in 1892 from the merger of the villages of Manchester and Suspension Bridge. It is a popular vacation destination because of its proximity to the falls. City points of interest are Niagara Falls State Park, Maid of the Mist, Cave of the Winds, Prospect Point Observation Tower, Niagara Discovery Center, Aquarium of Niagara and Seneca Niagara Casino & Hotel.Every year this natural wonder attracts more than 12 million visitors from all over the world looking to see the gorgeous Niagara Falls. Actually composed of three massive waterfalls Horseshoe Falls, American Falls and Bridal Veil Falls – Niagara Falls straddle the border between the United States and Canada. Niagara Falls tours run throughout the year, whether rain or shine or snow. Spring and summer are the most popular times to visits as the famous Maid of the Mist cruise, runs seasonal and gets visitors up close and personal with the falls. Tourism is a major part of the city’s economy and popular sites include The Statue of Liberty, Times Square, The Empire State Building, Central Park, Ellis Island, Chinatown, Rockefeller Center, The September 11 Memorial & Museum and The Broadway Theatre District.

Niagara Falls – Toronto – Thousand Islands


Summary of The Day: On the second day, we’ll see the falls up-close and experience their power aboard the Maid of the Mist (May-October). We’ll travel to the picturesque village of Niagara-on the-Lake (May-October) around noon before continuing on to Toronto. There, we’ll visit City Hall, Ontario Legislative Building, and Eaton Center. Departing from Toronto, we’ll head east along the world famous Lake Ontario to our accommodations near the Thousand Islands area.

Ontario Parliament visit is only available from June to the end of August in 2016.

  • Toronto
    The largest and most populous city in Canada offers visitors a dizzying array of attractions and things to do. The 1,815-foot tall CN Tower, which dominates the city’s skyline, and Toronto City Hall, one of the most unique structures in the world, are must-sees on any visit to the provincial capital. Other popular attractions include Casa Loma, the Gothic Revival house and gardens in midtown Toronto; the theme park, boats and sand beaches on Toronto Islands; and the history, architecture and politics at the Ontario Legislative Building.
  • Horseshoe Falls
    These powerful and spectacular falls are almost entirely in Canada with 90 percent of the Niagara River flowing over them at a rate of 600,000 gallons per second. Situated between Goat Island and Table Rock, Horseshoe Falls are the largest of the three waterfalls that make up the magnificent Niagara Falls and became active more than 12,000 years ago. Also known as Canadian Falls, they received their name because of their horseshoe shape first recognized in 1721 and are approximately 173 feet tall.
  • Maid of the Mist
    Established in 1846 as a ferry service, this Niagara Falls tour boat allows passengers an exciting up-close view of the world’s most popular waterfalls. Maid of the Mist begins in the Niagara River traveling past the American and Bridal Veil falls and then to the more intense Horseshoe Falls. Guests are provided with a poncho by the Maid of the Mist Steamship Co. as they could get wet. Famous passengers on the boat ride throughout the years have included United States President Jimmy Carter, Princess Diana and her sons William and Harry, actress Marilyn Monroe, actor Robert Redford and music group One Direction.
  • Toronto City Hall
    Toronto City Hall’s two Modernist curved structures of different heights create one of the most distinct government headquarter buildings in North America. The landmark was designed by Viljo Revell and opened in 1965 and is the fourth city hall Toronto government has occupied. The West Tower has 20 floors and the East Tower has 27 with Council Chambers between them. The open space Nathan Phillips Public Square in front of Toronto City Hall has many sculptures including the Archer by Henry Moore as well as a reflecting pool, fountain, public art and arches.
  • Ontario Legislative Building
    “Situated in Downtown Toronto’s Queens Park, the elegant Richardsonian Romanesque style building constructed in 1893 contains Ontario’s Lieutenant Governor’s Suite, Legislative Chambers, Legislative Library and the Speaker’s Apartment. The Ontario Legislative Building was designed by Richard Waite with oak floors in the East Hall and Italian marble floors in the West Hall. Artist Gustav Hahn painted elaborate murals on the walls and ceiling of the Legislative Chambers. Portions of the building had to be rebuilt after a 1909 fire.

Thousand Islands – The Premium Outlets – New Jersey


Summary of The Day: We’ll start the day with a cruise through the amazing Thousand Islands (May to October, admission included). In April, we’ll spend the morning visiting the Welland Canal Locks see how this amazing testament to man’s ingenuity can move huge ships up and down the Niagara escarpment. We’ll stop for lunch at Niagara-on-the-Lake, after which we’ll head to Tannersville to take advantage of the amazing deals at The Premium Outlets.

Accommodations for the evening are in New Jersey.

  • Thousand Islands
    This group of 1,864 islands are located in the St. Lawrence River on the United States-Canadian border and extend for approximately 50 miles. Thousand Islands, or 1,000 Islands, were formed nearly 12,000 years ago and discovered by Jacques Cartier with the St. Lawrence River in 1535. They were a popular vacation destination for many upper and middle class families, who often built homes and mansions there, during the late 19th Century and early 20th Century. The 27-mile Wolfe Island located in Ontario is the largest island. Notable sights are the Boldt Castle, Singer Castle, Cornwall Brothers Museum, Wellesley Island State Park, Thousand Islands National Park, Thousand Islands Bridge, Robert Moses State Park, Antique Boat Museum, Eel Bay, Rock Island Lighthouse and St. Lawrence statue.

Philadelphia – Washington, DC

Summary of The Day: Depart from New Jersey to Pennsylvania and to the city of brotherly love Philadelphia. Arriving in the historic area of Philadelphia we visit the famous Liberty Bell, one of the symbols of freedom in America, Constitution square and Congress Hall. Stroll Elfreth’s alley the oldest continuously inhabited street in America. Continue on a panoramic tour of Philadelphia that includes the financial district, Benjamin Franklin Parkway, Historic Philadelphia and more.

Departing Philadelphia we see the famous “Rocky Steps” and then continue to Lancaster county home of the Amish people. We start our visit with a ride on an authentic Amish Buggy through the Amish farm country and learn how they live without the benefit of modern technology, no electricity, running water, telephone service, or appliances. After the ride we visit the Amish marketplace where we can shop for handmade arts crafts and products. In the late afternoon we depart east for an evening arrival in Washington, D.C.

  • Washington, DC
    Situated along the Potomac River between the states of Maryland and Virginia, Washington, DC, is chock full of iconic national landmarks and memorials, including the White House, Capitol Hill, Washington Monument, and Lincoln Memorial. It is also a place to pay our respects – at the Korean War Veterans Memorial, and the Vietnam Veterans Memorial – to all those who served the nation proudly. And don’t forget the preponderance of museums geared toward practically every taste and age group, two of the most popular being the National Air and Space Museum and Ford’s Theatre.
  • Philadelphia
    The history of this fascinating city is steeped in the founding of the United States. Visit Independence Hall to see the place where the Declaration of Independence was signed in 1776 and the US Constitution was adopted in 1787. Take a tour of Congress Hall, the US Capitol from 1790 to 1800, and the site of the inauguration of George Washington and John Adams, as well as the ratification of the Bill of Rights. No visit to Philadelphia is complete without a peek at the Liberty Bell, originally used to summon lawmakers to legislative sessions at Philadelphia State House.
  • Benjamin Franklin Parkway
    In a city known for it’s rich historic heritage, this mile long stretch of boulevard serves as the artistic and cultural mecca of Philadelphia. The Parkway is home to some of the most well known institutions and attractions of the city, including world class museums, Love Park and the infamous “Rocky” Steps.
  • Elfreth’s Alley
    The oldest residential street in the United States contains 32 structures dating back between the 1720s and 1830s in the historic city of Philadelphia. The Elfreth’s Alley Museum offers a guide book at its gift shop or online telling the stories of the early days of each building. The museum is located in buildings 124 and 126 that were constructed in 1755 by Jeremiah Elfreth and currently the only homes open to the public for tours. Elfreth’s Alley is a U.S. National Historic Landmark.
  • Liberty Bell
    This legendary symbol of freedom in the United States containing a distinctive crack is on display protected by a glass case in the Liberty Bell Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The mostly copper Liberty Bell was made in 1752 by British firm White Chapel Foundry with the the Bible verse “Proclaim LIBERTY throughout all the Land unto all the inhabitants thereof” engraved on it. It was cracked when it first arrived in Philadelphia. The Liberty Bell Center features multimedia presentations and exhibits on the history of the Liberty Bell.
  • Independence Hall
    Both the United States Declaration of Independence and Constitution were signed at this historically significant Philadelphia structure that once had the famed Liberty Bell in its Bell Tower. Independence Hall was finished in 1753 using a design by Andrew Hamilton and Edmund Woolley under the orders of the Pennsylvania Colonial Legislature. Other important events that happened in this building were the appointment of George Washington to head the Continental Army in 1775, adoption of the U.S. Flag design in 1777 and the Articles of Confederation approval in 1781. Independence Hall, which is part of Independence National Historic Park, is a United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) World Heritage Site.
  • Amish Village
    The 12-acre attraction in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, offers visitors an inside look at the Amish way of life as well as lessons from a real Amish school teacher. Amish Village contains farm animals, an 1840s farmhouse, crafts and handmade items, Amish treats, a blacksmith shop, schoolhouse, authentic buggy and the Smokehouse Market. Various tours of the village and surrounding area are available. See first hand the simplicity of Amish living and the beauty of Pennsylvania Dutch Country!

Washington, D.C – New York City

Summary of The Day: Start the day with a visit to Arlington National Cemetery the changing of the guards and the Kennedy family gravesite. Next, visit the Mint and learn how the US tries to keep the US Dollar safe from counterfeiters. Our visit continues to Capitol Hill. See the Capitol, Senate and White House to understand the core of the US government. Continue to the Air and Space Museum before visiting the Lincoln, Washington, Korea and Vietnam Memorials. In the late afternoon we depart Nord for an evening arrival in New York.
